Jeannette’s childhood consisted of negligent parents and her long time dream of getting away from them by moving to New York to fulfill what she dreams of being, a journalist. She knew something better was out there than always having to work in order to keep a roof over her family’s heads. She knew, when she received the right amount of money, she needed to do something for herself by moving away from her family. She also knew she had what it takes to go to New York by herself because she was basically on her own for her whole life. Her motivation sparked when the New York idea came up: “They told her she had talent and said if she was serious about becoming an artist, she needed to go to New York City” (222).…

3.4 Discussion of Results The evidence is clear; large cable conglomerates like TWC, now called Charter Spectrum since its latest merger, act with monopoly power to increase prices and no one is stepping in to regulate them. With only one cable provider in most areas due to prohibitive capital-intensive entry barriers, the government has allowed the cable industry to function as natural monopolies, with limited government restrictions. With free reign on price increases, TWC camouflages many increases by burying them in equipment charges and add-on service fees. In addition, they bundle their services so that the price of selecting individual services versus the bundled service is cost prohibitive for the consumer, increases revenue for…

My organization’s values are in a transition period as our industry changes on a broad scale, and as we go through a management change. In general, a similar group of basic assumptions has been at the core of the power industry for a long time (Bassham, 2016). These basic assumptions typically align with the view that our customers are only ratepayers, and our only obligation to them is to keep their lights on. Our new management has, along with a growing percentage of the industry, began to focus on values that view our customers as partners, and we have an obligation to listen to them and deliver what they want. But, as Kreitner and Kinicki (2013) discuss in the text because these basic assumptions are so ingrained and deep-rooted, they are very difficult to…
