Bob Ryan Research Paper

On Tuesday, January 16, I had the privilege of meeting and spending the evening with Bob Ryan. Having him visit campus and speak to the students who are pursuing a career in sports was a wonderful opportunity. Prior to his speaking session, I was able to eat dinner with him with a few fellow students who are also involved with NSMA. Speaking with him one-on-one while being able to pick his brain regarding his career in the sports industry was an invaluable experience. Also, simply listening to his many stories as he reminisced about his career experiences was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
During his talk, he highlighted a very important thing about why we love sports and why we want to pursue a job in the industry. He said that we are intrigued by sports because the outcome is always unknown and uncertain. I have found this phenomenan fasinating since I was a child and I first developed an interest in sports. Every game, every league, and every sport is different. Mr. Ryan used Super Bowl XLIX as an example. I remember watching that game and being mindblown by the outcome. Now, I am a Patriots fan, so of course I was overjoyed by the outcome of the game. Ryan at dinner and listened to him speak during his presentation, I was able to pick up on his genuine passion for sports. A few students asked him questions regarding the Boston Celtics and other sports business topics, such as the one-and-done rule in college basketball. When Mr. Ryan answered those questions, he spoke at such a passionate level, which is a similarity that I feel that I share with him. Once I am engaged in a conversation regarding sports, I become so passionate and feel as if I could carry the conversation for days.
