Bob Marley has funded twenty-seven fundraising and awareness projects. Theses projects have made over $1.3 million in donations to causes that have saved more than 255,000 lives. Rita Marley today, she heads both the Bob Marley foundation and the Rita Marley foundation, organizations that work to end poverty in Jamaica and Africa. In July 2006, she told ABC’s Good Morning America. “We have been funding ourselves in whatever we have been doing, especially in Ghana and Ethiopia. We’ve been doing it out of our own pockets in terms of what Bob left us….[The greatest needs are] water, food, clothing, toothbrush to brush their teeth and someone to love them. “He is a hero” and my claim is to make that statement true. Not only his foundations were powerful reaching to other people, but his music had it to them too. His music were powerful messages trying to make this world a better place. In 1972 Prime Minister of Jamaica, Michael Manley was elected. Four years later Marley was the most popular person in Jamaica. He refused to take political stance as the country was divided up between Manley’s people.
