¨-I seen that black nigger yonder ruttin´ on my Mayella!¨(Lee 231). In that quote, Bob was being prejudice towards Tom Robinson during his testimony in the trial, and he shook some people in the courtroom. He was not afraid to say what he believed, in his dialogue, there was a lot of foul language along with prejudice. And that quote was both of those things. In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, asking, who, single-handedly, was responsible for the injustices endured by Tom Robinson is as ill-defined as asking who created war. A question impossible to answer, not because its truth varies from person to person, but because it is still being asked today. Through time, it has changed forms, changed meanings, changed people, and changed lives. Tom Robinson hasn’t been the only one to battle prejudicial tyranny, so how could one person be culpable for all the oppression clawing at the masses? The truth lies in an ambiguous justification.…

The author includes this theme to attempt to educate her readers that forming ideas about people, especially during a time of negative thinking towards a specific group of people, is not morally correct and people should make more of an effort to get to know someone before judgment. In a novel that attempts to lead people away from prejudgment of African American citizens, there are many cases in which African Americans are spoken negatively about without a reason. One of the main events that takes place in To Kill a Mockingbird is the trial between Tom Robinson, Mayella Ewell, and Bob Ewell. Mr. Ewell claimed to have seen Tom Robinson raping Mayella, Bob’s daughter, and decided to take the case to court.
