Boat Descriptive Writing

Have you ever looked forward to something so much that you're nearly exploding with anticipation? Well, that's how I feel as I sit on this boat with my best buddy in the whole wide world, Blake. It's the nicest day of the summer and I've been itching to take my new boat out for a spin since I bought it last summer. Obviously, I had to take Blake with me becasue we've been on boats since we were little boys. Now, at twenty-one years old, I get to sit back and relax on a boat of my own. "Hey Ethan!" Blake shouts, disrupting my plesant thoughts. "We're staring to hit some nasty waters!" I refocus on reality only to notice the brutal shaking of the canoe, waves jumping at the boat and my skinny, light haired friend trying to steady it all out. Grabbing a paddle and shoving it into the water, I desperately try to steer the boat out of the harsh waters. My attempt is in vain. Between the crashing sounds of waves I hear a shrill scream that I'll never forget. My eyes shoot up only to see my best friend get thrown off the boat. "Blake!" I cry, lunging forward, trying to grab him. It was the last thing I said before I was consumed by the unforgiving ocean. I wake …show more content…
I don't know how I'd live without that guy, he's always looking out for me. Once he disappears behind the trees, I lay back down and try to relax. Looking up, I see the sun peering through the intertwined deep green leaves and rugged brown branches of our shelter. Turning onto my side for more comfort releases the smell of old dry ferns that we've been using as bedding and blankets from underneath me. Twenty-five days, I think. We've been stranded on this island for twenty-five days. My once short black hair has grown over my dark blue eyes and my old cubby body has become much thinner from an absense of my mother's home cooked meals. "You can never have too much of my lasagna," she used to say. I laugh at the thought. Oh, how I miss my

We can all admit that at some point in our crazy and busy life, we have taken the time to look back and ponder on our childhood, our childhood dreams, the endless things we could do and not get punished for it, and the constant need to seek for adventure. But as an adult looking back, we don’t stop here, we continue to ponder and think about the importance of this event, the safety, and the ability to be able to accomplish it at such a young age. This passage from Sarah Orne Jewett’s “A White Heron,” takes us back down to memory lane and uses Sylvia’s climb to the top of the monumental pine tree to see the ocean as a metaphorical image to us, as adults, being able to achieve our wildest dreams for the future. This passage perfectly displays the danger, excitement and the “I did it” feeling by using a distinct narrative pace, a third person omniscient point of view, denoting diction, and imagery.…

Does anyone know the meaning of Boat People? The Columbia Encyclopedia defined that, “Boat people, term used to describe the Indochinese refugees who fled Communist rule after the Vietnam War.” That was me thirty-three years ago. My younger brother and I escaped from Viet Nam together with fifty-four strangers on March 26, 1982, on a little boat that was only big enough for us to sit neatly face to face with our legs folded up to our chest. After four days and five nights, we arrived to Ku Ku camp in Indonesia Island, agitated, ravenous, and exhausted.…

The first Boat painting uses the visual elements to contrast the structure of the city with the uncertainty of the ocean. He does this by contrasting the visual elements. For example, the manmade items have straight lines and are colored in reds while the ocean is gagged and blue. This is more easily seen in the sky. The sky contrasts with the clouds rolling in.…

In “The Open Boat”, it is instantly recognizable that the men aboard the dinghy have no control over every aspect their situation. The crew steer the boat and row the oars, however as the men squeeze inside this tiny boat, they fall victim to naturalism. Naturalism says, mother nature is truly in control of the vessel, having no feelings of compassion or hatred towards it. Nature’s divine and uncharismatic power, is seen as nature hurls wave after wave toward the dinghy, sinks the captain’s ship, and the animals held against them. While the four men are in the dinghy, they are constantly hit with the waves of the ocean.…
