I arrived at Rancho Buena Vista High School at 12:00 pm. I waited in a line for about 20 minutes until I reached to the security section. Before we could enter Rancho Buena Vista’s Stadium, we had to be checked for weapons or anything dangerous. I took everything from my pockets and placed them on the table where the securities took a look. Then I was patted down and walked through a metal detector.…
Dear Mr.Carroll, on Friday December 16, multiple people including myself where sexually harassed and mentally scarred in the men's restroom due to the actions of an Indian Mills School District Employee. Jeremy Calp, the custodian that was present at the dance preceded to walk into the men's restroom while student where using it. Three students were told in a sexual manner "Stop messing around, what are you guys playing with your each other. " Inferring that they were performing oral sex with each other. All three students (Dylan R, Clayton S, and Nick P) were extremely disturbed by this disgusting and offensive comment.…
Katie Kelley, Lewis Kelley's mother, called this afternoon requesting additional information about an incident that occurred in your 8th period Advisory class. She states that Lewis was threatened with ASD, and that he isn't sure exactly what he had done. I explained to Mrs. Kelley that Lewis had not been assigned ASD, but that I'm pretty confident he must have been exhibiting undesirable classroom behavior for you to warn him about ASD as a potential consequence for his behavior. I informed his mother that I was unfamiliar with the incident, but I suggested that she speak with you to get a more accurate account of exactly what happened as opposed to just taking Lewis's version of events as gospel. I'm requesting that you attempt to make…
Because I am working with humans, I need full permission from the institutional review board to carry out my study. The institutional review board will inform me if my experiment is appropriate to continue, which may take up to a month to confirm. If my experiment does not pass the IRB, additional time for my experiment will be necessary to make proper and efficient adjustments. Each sample group is on the East Coast, however we do intend to travel to the location each research team is assigned too. Geographically, the sample groups are close and easy to communicate with through phones and emails.…
Community AA meeting My experience at a Community Alcohol Anonymous meeting took place at Macedonia Church in Williamston, NC on a Thursday night. I learned a lot of things just by attending this meeting such as all alcoholics are not the same stereotypical group that a majority of people put them under. I really do not know how I categorize alcoholics before becoming a nurse, but I have learned that they come in all shapes and sizes, different walks of life, employed or unemployed, and various income levels. One thing I noted during this meeting is that they seem to be very religious, constantly talking about God and/or a higher power to help them throughout their journey.…
We asked for the vice principal and the secretary tried contacting her. The main office seemed out of control. Teachers, parents and students were coming in and out of the office. After a few minutes the secretary told us that the vice principal and the teachers were not expecting us. They first called us interns, then practicum students.…
I attended a meeting with the Latino Medical student Association on the topic of DACA and how it can affect medical school hopefuls. My friend who is a member of the organization informed me about the meeting and with what was going on in the news regarding the future of DACA and its recipients I thought it would be important to go. l learned that they are very big on community and connecting their members with different opportunities as well as fostering a comfortable environment that allows their members to freely speak about important topics. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the experiences of students from different backgrounds that were all Dreamers. I'd be lying if I said I didn't get emotional hearing about the many times medical…
To Protect The rumors couldn't be true. Sitting alone in my cabin, after my belly churned for days, I nervously called a friend who had once been where I now found myself. Feeling trapped by the typical gossip of a small community, I wanted the name of a confidential person at the domestic violence and sexual assault non-profit.…
On Thursday October 5th, I was invited to participate in an IEP team meeting as the regular education teacher. This student has down syndrome, identified at birth, and is receiving services as intellectually disabled. This student is in a self-contained classroom therefore, his current teacher served as the special education teacher for the purposes of this meeting. The following people attended this meeting: Mrs. Katherine Fields (ARC Advocate), Dr. Neiman (Main speech therapist, over the phone), Mrs. Bennett (LEA representative), Mrs. Diggs (ACS EC Director, as a precaution because the parents expressed that they were not happy), Mrs. Sikes (Regular Education), Mrs. Bernard (Special Education Teacher), Mrs. Liles (Speech therapist),…
The third AA meeting I attended was at Bridgewater Congregational Church, in Bridgewater Connecticut, at 7:00pm on Friday June 8, 2018. The past two meetings I attended were open book, however this meeting was a twelve- step meeting. The language used in this meeting was the same as the two other meetings I observed. Many members mentioned the words “higher power”, “prayer”, and “powerlessness”. The man who ran the meeting introduced himself, read the preamble and asked if there were any new members present.…
Reflections of an AA Meeting Attendance by a Non-Alcoholic Support Meeting Reflection I attended an online Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. There were twenty-six participants there, including myself; two of which were moderators. I had actually logged on early, as is my habit attending seminars, and observed the other participants chatting beforehand. I was surprised by the lack of seriousness surrounding this whole process.…
Before this class, I had never been to a school board meeting and I decided to go back to the district where I went and to see how things are going since I have graduated. Since I went to a school that is in the class of 3A, it didn’t last as long as I would have compared to the bigger school district like those here in Topeka. I went to the meeting on November 13th and since they stick to the agenda so well it was over in about an hour and I stayed for the whole time, minus the tour of RHS. Since there are only four schools in the district, each year the school board visits each school for a meeting and goes on a “tour” after the meeting to see if anything needs to be changed in the future.…
When I delivered the teaching session, the experience was an overall success with students showing a clear interest and engaging in the lesson (Table 1, question 10, mean 4.3). The teaching began with a clear introduction to the key learning points for the whole session (Table 1, question 5, mean 4.3), which allowed the students to understand what the session was going to entail. This was beneficial to those who needed to see the big picture to see how topics fit together[1]. I further explained that the session will be split into three sections and explained that certain learning outcomes will be covered in each section. Student feedback stated that there was “enthusiastic teaching in appropriate sized teaching bites.”…
I was fortunate enough to attend the 2016 H. W. Sumners Leadership Conference where I would have the opportunity to meet a unique pool of influential individuals. Most of my leadership experiences had come from group projects with students who I were familiar with, and the conference gave me the chance to become a team with strangers from across the United States and Mexico. I was not aware of how much I was actually going to get out of the conference. Through the elective workshops, I learned much more about my leadership style and who I could become as a leader. Through the speakers, I learned about the power of creating a vision and pursuing with unyielding faith.…
