Vincent Edward “Bo” Jackson was born on November 30, 1962 in Bessemer, Alabama to a mother of ten. His family described him as a "wild boar hog," as he would constantly get into trouble. The nickname was eventually shortened to "Bo." Bo attended McAdory High school and excelled in track winning two state titles, in baseball and football. Bo was drafted by the New York Yankees out of high school but decided to attend Auburn University. In Auburn Bo lettered in all three sports but made the most impact in football as he was named All-American twice and won the Heisman Trophy in 1985. Despite announcing that he did not want to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the Buccaneers selected him with the first pick in the NFL Draft. Bo signed with the Kansas city royals and skipped the NFL to play in the MLB. …show more content…
In 1989 Bo Jackson was named to the Major League Baseball all star team and all star MVP. The following year he received pro bowl honors and became the only athlete to be an all star in two major north American sports. In 1991 Bo Jackson injured his hip during a NFL divisional playoff game. He needed to replace his hip after several surgeries. This hip replacement caused Bo to never play another NFL game. Bo Jackson back to baseball and signed with the Chicago White Sox. In April 2012 Bo Jackson participated in a 300 mile cycling trip in support of tornado victims in Alabama called Bo Bikes Bama. In 2013 ESPN's Sports Science named Bo Jackson the greatest athlete of all time over Roger Federer, Muhammad Ali, and Michael
