Satire Satire or the use of humor, irony, or exaggeration to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices is used in many types of stories to entertain the reader in a fun way. There are many different stories that do this by not even talking about it. Authors can do this by saying jokes all throughout a story and they don’t even mention their jokes. This is one of the best ways to make a story because laughter is one of the best feelings.…
The film Bob Roberts is a story about a Pennsylvania senatorial race between the democratic senator, Brickley Paiste, and a folk singer, Bob Roberts. In terms of genre, it is a comedic satire criticizing the problems that the American electoral system has and how exploitable it can be by candidates, such as Bob Roberts. It heavy-handedly tackles the drama and deception that a less favorable candidate can utilize to their advantage and spin the election in their favor. To add to this, the film sends a very clear message that charisma can be a more than adequate stand in for ability in regard to an election, but the effectiveness of the satire comes from the procedural attitude that the Bob Roberts campaign takes to their extremely apparent…

Yes, the title of this article is tripping with sarcasm, but I’ll stop there. Here's why. Author David Foster Wallace wrote this about sarcasm: Even gifted ironists work best in sound bites. I find them sort of wickedly fun to listen to at parties, but I always walk away feeling like I've had several radical surgical procedures. And as for actually driving cross-country with a gifted ironist, or sitting through a 300-page novel full of nothing but trendy sardonic exhaustion, one ends up feeling not only empty but somehow ... oppressed.…
The great Robert Frost once said, “Happiness makes up in height for what it lacks in length.” Many believe that he was a happy poet, writing about his experiences in nature. Upon closer inspection, the darker side of Frost becomes clear. He was fearful of many things in his life and they became evident in his poetry. However, he denied that there was any connection between his personal life and the work he made.…
“ “Those ribbons that you are so devoted to are the badge of slavery…” Mollie agreed, but she did not sound very convinced.” Mollie represents the Russian middle class, consisting of people who were acquisitive, didn’t want to give up their luxuries, and didn’t care for the revolution. This demonstrates satire because it mocks the middle class of Russia, saying that the bourgeois were selfish and materialistic. Another humor tool is a hyperbole, which exaggerates something to make it seem better or worse.…
(PARAGRAPH 13). Proving this to the boss could be a challenge. He also expresses appeals to pathos by being determined. He states “four our sakes, and for the sakes of those who employ us, things need to change “(PARAGRAPH 5) Good management is what brings happiness.…
Staples uses these two pieces of rhetoric so elegantly as to create an essay which brings light on an issue less traveled by. His style and use of his rhetoric places them in a way which one can be easily tricked into reading through. Where anecdote and diction meet, we find an essay of social and cultural satire and…
Comically Crude The line drawn between comedy and vulgar references have become blurred in today's society. A comedian may make a joke which offends a great body of people all for the purpose of making a few laugh. Famous comedians make a living off of exploiting both groups, and individual peoples, with derogatory comments in order to make large masses of money. In the past, comedians would cross social lines and force society forward using both obscene language and seemingly deranged or lewd topics.…

Comedies often provide laughter and entertainment while presenting social, political, philosophical, and theological ideas and problems. Within the comedy genre, satire presents itself in a form of sarcasm, irony and humor. It is the combination of entertainment and critique to criticize the ignorance of a person or society. It has a few elements: entertainment and critical reflection to awaken the audience and to address issues and questions. It does not seek to do harm, but it seeks the truth and its purpose is to create a reform (a change or improvement).…

"Pride and prejudice" by Jane Austen Jane Austen’s valuable treatise Pride and Prejudice exemplifies various kinds of marriages; however, leaves the readers with the impression that marriages of suitability and love are the ones to be wished for. Pride and Prejudice falls in the genre of romantic and sentimental novels of the eighteenth century. In the first three chapters of the novel, every situation and incident of the plot advances the progress of the story. The chapters contain gentle and subtle irony and satire. While the style employed by Jane Austen is transparent and simple, the language used by the characters of the story often reveals their personalities.…
Satire Take it or Leave it As an art form, satire has existed since Antiquity. Several Greek playwrights wrote works mocking the conventions of their time. Quintilian famously said that satura, that is a satire in hexameter verses, was a literary genre of wholly Roman origin (satura tota nostra est) (Wikipedia). Satire has endured throughout western history as a form of cultural critique.…
Does comedy help promote social change? Ramon Lopez, Iain Ellis and the documentary Tickling Giants demonstrate how comedy has had some social change but has not had a positive impact on society nor promoted great social change. Ellis discusses about how The Talk Show brought about a change in society but not a positive change in which the comedian expected since the nation returned to where they started or even worse. While Lopez discuss how the comedian Jon Stewart does not promote positive social change but rather degrading change in society. I agree that comedy can have a social effect but disagree that comedians can bring about a positive change.…
