Blur's Parklife Synthesis

Though Blur’s Parklife is critically acclaimed, the album is honestly just general Britpop, and it's really nothing special. Not only does it draw most of its sounds from the likes of David Bowie and the Beatles, the overall sound of the album really didn't have any cohesion. Instead of the album having one similar tone that flows throughout, or two tones with a transition in the middle that actually makes sense, Parklife is just a collection of songs that would probably sound better together if they were reorganized in a different order. It’s not that the order of the songs is totally out of whack, it’s just that some of the songs seem to come a little bit prematurely or a little too late.

The album begins with Girls & Boys, which is one of the more “We want this to be a hit single!” songs on the album. It’s unique from any other track that follows it, with a electronica esque start that leads into a very moderate baseline and vocals that create the same sound as Matt & Kim’s Daylight with the barely there echo that continues Girls & Boys’ low-key electronica vibe. The lyrics in the chorus were probably meant to be edgy in the 90’s, but now that this album is over 20 years old, they don’t hold the same, if any weight that they may have.

The line,“Everyday he got closer” in Tracy Jacks is evocative of the song From Me to You, with the same intonation and drawl of the vocals. The trumpet part in the instrumentals in End of a Century is also recollective of Penny Lane, yet another Beatles song. While nostalgia is all fun and good, it leaves you wanting something that’s purely

I support the female's perspective rather than the male’s perspective, because I strongly believe that abortion should not be an option and that everyone should be given the opportunity to live. The song in general sparks a fuse about the possible scenarios my mom could've gone through when she was expecting me. Listening to this song leaves me thankful that my mother decided to keep me, just as the female speaker decided to do. Abortion is not a topic you hear about often, the song “Lost Ones” shows how the sense of fear from both, the young boy and the young girl who have just found out a baby is on the way induces them to make a decision that could change their life forever. It shows how the young couple face a challenge but lastly have hope that everything will go fine.…

The songs “Double Dare Ya” by Bikini Kill and “Feminazi” by Fea have many parallels but also contain varying ideals. Both songs are overall about the topic of feminism and women's rights but each song approaches the topic differently. The song portrays a range of social problems the people have to grapple with as day go by. The white man controls most of the majority hence perpetuating racial segregation right from the media, the prisons to the social environments. When one listens to “Message Man” (the eleventh song on the album) in that moment one would feel powerful, but when the song changes to “Hometown” (the twelfth song on the album) one could start to feel a bit more in depth with oneself. The beginning of Blurryface starts with “HeavyDirtySoul” and as one knows, that song is upbeat with emotional lyrics. The last song of Blurryface is “Goner” which is said to be the most emotional song all around on the album; one could agree that even if one is in a great mood after listening to this song one would begin to think deeply about everything consuming one. Tyler and Josh end the album on a sad note, but it is for a purpose, to make one think. Blurryface is definitely an album of different sorts and does an amazing job at keeping the band’s image alive.…
