The writer has given us a setting where everything begins. The book talks about the racial disparities and how different people were treated differently because of their color. The first two paragraphs just gave a quick insight into what I would be getting myself into in the rest of the book. b. Based on what you’ve read so far, what do you expect the rest of the writing to tell you?
I believe the rest of the book is going to talk about racial conflict and how people deal with the discrimination. Just for the simple fact the writer brought up these girls wanting to beat up another girl, and her skin was white …show more content…
After reading the entire book follow these steps: a. Briefly summarize the writing as if you were describing it to a friend.
It all starts when there are no marigolds in the fall. This is thought to be because Pecola was pregnant with her father Cholly’s baby. The sisters believed that is the seeds would blossom, Pecola’s baby would be safely delivered, but the seeds refused to sprout, and the two sisters blamed each other. The narrator now believes the earth itself was unfertile as if nothing could grow and that their hope was no more productive than Pecola’s father’s anguish. The narrator states that the sisters’ innocence, Pecola’s baby, and Pecola’s father are all dead; only Pecola and the earth remain.
The story is basically a struggle of one girl named Pecola who was wronged throughout the entire story. Her struggle mends friendships and caused conflict. She’s lost and her father adds to her misery by raping her. All this girl wanted was to be noticed, but once noticed her father took advantage of her. All Pecola wanted was blue eyes. b. This can be said many ways. Cholly the person who raped Pecola in a sense did the right thing. He showed he love, and at one point she enjoyed it. Cholly allowed her to open her eyes and show their true color. Him raping her created a new Pecola. One that now isn’t looking for anyone to accept her, but looking to be accepted by everyone. Cholly gave her love something no one else truly has. Now that she has the taste of it she wants to be loved by everyone with the bluest eyes in the world. She believes she’s the best now; even though she had been raped in a way it made her eternally
