This article describes how blues and gospel artists from the 1920s influenced today's music greatly. It touches on the fact that blues is one of jazzs greatest influence. It summarizes what blues is, and the aspects of blues that have found their way into the seams of jazz. The article describes how the influence cannot be explained only with words, you have to listen and hear the emotions of both, how both genres are important and meaningful. The study provides information on how jazz spread throughout the country due to musicians leaving the south to seek better opportunities. Jazz grew in popularity and gave people, especially African Americans, an escape from their daily lives. It soon spread into other races and provided a connection of the two like never before. This helps support the thesis because it shows how Jazz brought people together, it made people forget about color for a short amount of time and get lost in the world of jazz. The journal shows how jazz started the cultural change from old discriminatory mindsets and traditional values to those of modern America.
