If the shooter has the correct; base, scope mount, rings, quality glass, cleaning kit and match grade ammunition, there ready to break in their barrel. The purpose behind the breaking in process is to give the bore a final finish, where the copper fouling will not be excessive, and the bore will resist corrosion. The long-term wear and corrosion will be determined by the choice of barrel.
Blued steel will yield high strength but have a low resistance to corrosion. Stainless steel however, will yield both excellent strength and corrosion resistance.

Repeat this process for a total of 5 shots. The remaining breaking in period should be conducted using 5 shot groups and cleaning after every group.
Some shooters claim 20, 50 or even 60 rounds for a break in, it’s all about who is been asked. When cleaning the goal is to measure how many dry patches is needed to clean the bore. There should be a noticeable decline in the number of patches used. If solvent fails to work, an abrasive paste such as JB’s or Autosol may be used.

Throughout the war smoothbore muskets were the armament of the troops of the line. The rifle and the musket were quite different. At 100 yards the best musketeers could hit a man only about four shots out of every ten. In contrast, expert riflemen, could kill a man every shot at 100 yards, and do good execution at twice that range. The chief limitations on the use of riflemen were the scarcity of expert shots and the fact that the rifle was not made to carry a bayonet.…

The times that I spent shooting with my dad are some of my fondest memories. From an early age, he taught me how to properly respect firearms, operate them with emphasis on safety, and how to hunt efficiently with them. He taught me these things by letting me shoot and hunt with two very diverse cartridges: the .22lr and the .30/06 Springfield. Although, these cartridges may be the some of the most popular rounds in the country, they differ distinctly in their hunting applications, long-range ability, and produced recoil.…

Guns 101 is filling with me more knowledge that I will utilize from now on. Video of the week, I really like the guys in the video. Along with the article of the P290 by SIG Sauer was a lot of information to take in all at once without having a P290 in front of me. Learning about gun shop etiquette was, for the most part, something that I already do as second nature. The United States Constitution was written on September 17th, 1787 by our founding fathers. The purpose of the Constitution was to form a more perfect union due to the Article of Confederation being unsatisfactory to the people. I believe that the Constitution should be considered a living document due to the facts that the rules and regulations were made over 200 years ago so guns are not what they used to be, and circumstances such as toleration and our needs as a nation changed After the Constitution was written and the right to bear arms was instituted in the second amendment1, guns were riffles not semiautomatic weapons. Guns are used all around the world, but here in the United States, we need to keep our gun usage limited with gun laws. Gun laws are put into action to make sure firearms are used responsibly; however, people will always find a way to break these laws no matter how many are made. Our Second Amendment, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”, gives U.S. citizens the right to own a weapon and use it for the right reasons. Gun laws will not reduce the amount of gun deaths in the U.S. because gun laws do not determine crime; gun ownership determines crime numbers. There were 460,000 gun deaths in the U.S. between 1999-2013 and this was the 12th leading cause of death.…

Modern day America has far surpassed any futuristic dreams our nation’s founding fathers could conjure. A profit margin is considered when determining consumer pricing with periodic markdowns leveraged to entice consumers into their stores and dealerships. The pricing strategy used by S&W depends largely on the specific product line and the lifecycle of the weapon.
