The Blue Whale Out of all the creatures that have lived on this earth, from the big bang to present day, the blue whale is the biggest organism to ever exist. This alone is mind-blowing to me which is why I chose this animal for this particular project. To think even if you consider the dinosaurs walking the earth approximately 66 million years ago known for their enormous size and it doesn't even compare to the size of the blue whale, its pretty astonishing. We know very little about this mysterious whale, they aren't a lot around anymore so they are tough to spot much less study and analyze. The word ‘Balaenoptera’ means winged-whale referring to the blue whale’s dorsal fin and the word ‘Musculus’ refers to the whale size and pure muscle. Together it essentially means “Biggest mammal ever known.” Blue whales are found in every ocean around the world. This includes all temperatures and environments in water including warm, tropical, and polar. Their major food sources, krill and euphausiids, live in all regions therefore they never have to migrate for food. The blue whale eats about four tons of krill per day during the summer for its feeding season which is about 40 million krill each day, wow. Living in any habitat, cold, warm, they are very mobile and can pretty much go where the please. The only exception would be shallow water, Blue Whales seem to stay in somewhat deeper water just because of their size. These whales can get up to 100 feet in length and weight approximately 200 tons. Thats equal to the weight of 70 elephants, the whales tongue can weight more than an elephant alone. Blue whales are very long and lanky and they grayish blueish in color hence their name, if viewed from the air, these mammals look like large submarines cruising on the surface. They have a winged tail with no dorsal fin, and two pectoral fins on
