Blue Skin Of The Sea Analysis

Improved Essays
The theme of chapter 6 in the book Blue Skin of the Sea is to have hope and faith in difficult and bad situations. In the book it says, “‘Your daddy will be okay,’ she said, her warm hand on the back of my neck.”(98) This shows that Tutu Max had faith that Sunny’s father is still alive and she wants him to believe as well. If they believe then it will be easier for them to be happy in that difficult time. The book also said, “‘If they were anywhere near this place last night they probably had about a fifty-fifty chance.’”(100) This shows that even though it is hard to say and think there is always a chance. The last reason why the chapters theme is hope is because the book says, “ Dad would have heard the warnings and made it out there.” (101)

Many American families believe that SeaWorld is the best family vacation spot with its many parks all over the country. A typical visit to SeaWorld includes petting dolphins, visiting the aquarium, and being splashed by a majestic Orca. While SeaWorld may seem family-friendly, it definitely is not animal friendly. The tourist attraction, also known as SeaWorld, tortures its animals by ripping them from their homes and families, placing them in pools that might as well be bathtubs. Although families enjoy taking a trip to SeaWorld, they would feel a lot differently if they knew about the constant pain and torture inflicted on SeaWorld’s animals.…

Throughout the story, there are parts that foreshadow or hint that something is going to happen. For example, it says, “my headlamp went out. I replaced the bulb… but… the internal wiring was bad” (Paulsen 321-322). When the headlamp went out, some readers could probably foresee that something bad was going to happen. But the mood of the story does not directly affect the theme, because the theme of this text is that superstitions and beliefs can cause people to mistake something benign as terrifying.…

If one person’s inaction leads to the death of another, is he guiltier than someone who committed a violent act that results in a person’s death? In August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean, Citizen Barlow stole a bucket of nails, but did not come forward when another man was accused. The man subsequently committed suicide due to the false accusation and the significance of being labeled a thief. Another character, Caesar Wilts, shoots and kills a man who was suspected of committing a crime. While both men’s actions resulted in the death of another; who, if either, is guiltier than the other?…
