Blue Racer Snake

For my endangered species project I chose the coluber constrictor foxii also know as the blue racer snake. I chose this endangered animal because there are very few of them and it is a beautiful species. One of the biggest reasons this animal is endangered is because they are a very docile snake that would rather flee then flight. The blue racer has been on the endangered list since 1971, and in 1995 there were only 205 adult racers left on Pelee island. As the name says the blue racer snake is a light blue green snake with a cream underbelly and a red brown nose. The have smooth scales and large eyes. Its typical length is one and a half meters long for adults and snakelets are about eight to eleven inches long at birth. They typically have about fourteen eggs twice a year but can have anywhere from five to twenty. There eggs are about 2.5 cm long and like most snakes have a leathery shell. The blue racer has a large habitat area and with humans using their habitat to expand their cities and other industrial buildings they are being forced to move to areas that are not conducive to their hunting and breeding need.
