Blue Ocean V19 Analysis

“Blue Ocean V19” is a song by rapper Jaden Smith. Jaden Smith is well known as actor Will Smith’s son. Also, Jaden Smith has starred in a number of movies with his father such as Pursuit of Happyness and After Earth. Will Smith’s daughter, Willow Smith, was also featured on the song providing background vocals. Jaden Smith has released several mixtapes and 2 albums. Blue Ocean V19 was released through Willow Smith’s “SoundCloud” account.

I think Blue Ocean is about a Jaden Smith’s ex-girlfriend, Stella Hudgens. Smith previously wrote another song about Stella Hudgens, entitled “Starry Room”. Blue Ocean describes a love triangle between Jaden, Stella and her new unidentified boyfriend. Here is an excerpt from the first verse:
”Man I met a

This was further explained in this excerpt:
“I wrote you some notes, they're atrocious
Hope that you don't expose us…
And I told you they'd kill us and girl the way that you choked
Was just so emotional that I wish that my mouth never opened”
The first two lines possibly express that Jaden wrote his girlfriend letters, trying to convince her not to expose their secret relationship. While the third and fourth line seem a bit extreme, the meaning of them is quite subtle. With that said, I think Jaden exaggerated what the consequences of exposing them relationship would be. In addition, according to those lines, he probably scared the girl and she overreacted. As a result, he felt ashamed of even mentioning that.

The social issue presented in Blue Ocean is love. This theme is very evident in the song. One example of this are the pronouns that were used. Jaden either addressed his girlfriend as “girl” or “baby girl”. Also, the opening describes a breakup, when Jaden used the lines below:
“Don't tell me you cried cause I know that you didn't
Don't tell me you love me, I know I'm just

This is shown through her desire for, but lack of, a lover and marriage and aversion to children. The narrator mentions her relationship status to Sharon many times in this song; as if she is trying to emphasize that she is single and that Sharon is the reason. Whenever the narrator brings up wanting a relationship, she directs the song at Sharon.…

Water is possibly one of the most ordinary yet powerful substances on the planet. It plays a role in the birth of stars and planets and is a necessary component of sustaining life. Because water is such a common element, it is often overlooked when featured in stories or novels. Water can symbolize several characteristics, add depth to a tale, and can say a lot about characters without saying anything at all. Water is crucial for life and is often used symbolically to represent life.…

To uphold bravery, one must not be deterred by fears and potential dangers when making decisions. In James Baldwin’s novel Giovanni’s Room, the main protagonist David has significant difficulty establishing a courageous foundation due to his fears surrounding attraction towards men and his relationship to the supporting character Giovanni. Due to a lack of bravery, David develops more shame towards himself and the relationship. Outside of literature, different art forms and their artists take on this struggle of questioning sexuality linked to bravery and shame. In a recent article by Wallace Mack, he compares the song Siegfried, which on the studio album Blonde by Frank Ocean, to Giovanni’s Room.…

Often times we talk to individuals about their favorite vacation spot or where the place they feel the most at rest is; the response we get most often is the ocean. This is because the ocean is restorative. The quiet roar of the waves, the sound of seagulls chirping, the salty breeze, the ocean is a place of peace. For many the sea is not just a vacation destination, but the sea is a friend. Something that is consistent, and always listening.…

And there’s a big impact on that socioeconomic status where there’s this role of husband and wife. It’s a real-life problem in today’s society. The husband is going out being unloyal and the wife knows that but because of society, the wife is supposed to forgive the husband for his indecent acts even if it hurts her. I think the artists want to show that this is a recurring problem in today’s society and he has done it quite well with the lyrics and the video showing pathos, ethos, and…

Cowritten by Childish Gambino and Ludwig Göransson in 2012 for Childish Gambino’s album Camp, “Heartbeat” narrates a dysfunctional relationship that cannot be salvaged despite the poetic voice’s desire to do so. [con’t] “Heartbeat” is visibly a song full of confusion, which the narrative voice decides to pass on to the reader as well. Instead of offering full insight for the reader, the reader is forced to follow along with the confusion and stress being felt by the poetic voice. With lyrics such as “I wanted you to know” (Childish Gambino 1) and “I read his posts on your wall and I feel sick” (Childish Gambino 61), the usage of the words “you” and “your” makes the reader infer that the song’s audience is meant to be the female subject. With this…

In my speech, I will be describing the trials and triumphs of solitude, and the bittersweetness that come after. In both The Diary of Anne Frank and Island of the Blue Dolphins, there is a time of isolation with both times of optimism, and also pessimism. In both Island of the Blue Dolphins and The Diary of Anne Frank, the book starts off with an average girl of her time and place without anything to write a book about, but then their lives take a turn for the worst. In Island of the Blue Dolphins, Karana, the main character, loses her father in a unnecessary battle over otter pelts and what is a fair share.…

If one person’s inaction leads to the death of another, is he guiltier than someone who committed a violent act that results in a person’s death? In August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean, Citizen Barlow stole a bucket of nails, but did not come forward when another man was accused. The man subsequently committed suicide due to the false accusation and the significance of being labeled a thief. Another character, Caesar Wilts, shoots and kills a man who was suspected of committing a crime. While both men’s actions resulted in the death of another; who, if either, is guiltier than the other?…
