Destin Florida is my family’s favorite vacationing spot, its white sand beaches, blue green water, and beautiful ocean front condos always kept us coming back every year. The trip down to Destin was only supposed to take 12 hours, but it took us 15 due to my father’s inconvenient misreading of directions. The day seemed to drag on and on, as I waited, counting down the days to California. It was a humid, sunny afternoon down at the Alton pool, where I usually spend most of my summer days working as a lifeguard. Today was very different than most…. And maybe the reason why was because it was my last day of work before I flew off to the big L.A. Most days at the pool the time went by slower than any I have ever known, with the scorching hot sun burning my skin, and little kids yelling at their friends telling each other secrets or what they want to play next.…

I watched the people from the city enter the park and watched as their city attitudes give way to the magical ambiance of the park. I closed my eyes and took it all in, and I could’ve stayed on top of that rock for…

As I touch the sand for the first time that day, it felt like I was pushing against a hot iron. As my dad and I make our way to the boat, my dad comes across the question, "Today looks like a nice day for you to try sailing alone, do you want too?". So many thoughts begin to run through my head like I have to answer a question for a million dollars.…
