Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Descriptive Writing

I walked through the dust and dirt to the familiar nondescript building I had come to know and love: Merek South in Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Once the rehearsal ended, I was most surprised by the openness of everyone. There was not a single person in the band who failed to try to strike up conversation with people around them. Everyone was so amiable that it made it easy to make

On May 9, 2015, Garvey’s Advanced Band and Mustang Choir went to the Trills and Thrills Festival at Burbank Middle School. We had to be at school by 7:15 AM since it was our call time, and that was way too early for me since I usually sleep at 12 AM. I was in Advanced Band and I played the clarinet. Of course I was excited to play at the competition, but I was also nervous since we were going to Six Flags afterwards and I had a huge fear of heights.…

When it was announced on the first day of Blue Lake International, a four-week music camp, that I had gotten the position of first flute, my heart swelled with pride. However, the position was soon taken by a counselor, Tracey whom I thought would merely assist with rehearsals. Furthermore, Tracey began taking major flute solos from the students because she believed they lacked the skill to perform them. Her method of teaching mainly employed grabbing instruments, shouting, and glaring. Afraid that she would ruin my experience, I quickly picked up on what she disliked and started acting much friendlier.…

At the end of sixth grade, the junior high band came to my elementary school and performed for us. I watched in awe as students, not that much older than me, played music with their instruments. The flute players in the front row especially caught my attention; they were right next to the band directors and held their instruments up to the side, rather than down in front of them like the others. The flute had a high pitched melody and a bright silver color that appealed to me. That day, I signed up for the beginner band on the Coppinville Junior High registration sheet.…
