Blue [Bloo]: depressed in spirits; dejected; melancholy. Like this definition, when most come across the word blue, their brains automatically recognize it as a color that expresses sadness or a dispirited attitude. To me, this is an unfair definition because I believe this word can withhold several other characteristics. The dictionary’s blue is used as an adjective and usually carries a negative connotation, for example, someone could say, “I’m feeling blue” or “The statue was blue and unrealistic” but I believe in a different form of blue. Despite popular belief, I do not think that being sensitive is a bad thing. Most people assume that being sensitive means you’re weak or unstable, but being sensitive doesn’t mean you cry like a baby all the time, it means that you are not afraid of showing people how you feel. It’s not hard to tell that I am a sensitive person. Ask any person even remotely close to me; I cry very easily. Sad movie? I cry. Sad book? I cry. Too stressed? I cry. Someone else is crying? I cry. It’s a common thing for me, and I have been this way ever since I was a child. My crying habits have been a running joke in my family since I was young, for example, when someone asks my brother where I am, he often says, “I don’t know, probably off somewhere crying” and my boyfriend even posted a collage of photos of me crying for my birthday. But to most surprise, I don’t always cry when bad things happen, I just don’t deal with rejection or conflict very well. For instance, once when I was a kid, my mom got mad at me for not listening and I went around the house with sticky notes and covered up my face on all of the family photos to make her feel bad. It obviously didn’t work. And although these examples might depict me being made fun of for my sensitivity, I am not ashamed at all.
