“Blowback,” is an intriguing with a premise that blends something akin to “The Game Plan,” and “Matchstick Men,” with a CIA drama. The young protagonist, Carling, is intelligent and well written and the premise of her working with her estranged CIA father feels fresh and for the most part is executed well. The subplot with her father, Dylan and the one night stand that turns into their confident works well, though a conflict added to their budding bond, in line with conflict of interest as a journalist could have been explored more. Carling’s identity as “Shadow Admin,” was also something that could have been served well by more detail, though it’s function worked in the resolution of the script.

The grief that Carling feels, over her mom’s death as she tries to cope (37), coupled with the continued threat on her and Dylan’s life, keeps the stakes high the entire was through (93). As Dylan is first taken by the men working for the senator, and then Carling, the tension is kept as high as they work to save each other and forge their bond in the process of everything happening. The subplot of Lisa and Dylan flows naturally from a one night stand to a real connection well - and her purpose in being a sounding board for both of them is fitting. However, a conflict between them in the plot or their relationship - being more fleshed out would have given it a more satisfying payoff. Had the scene where they both lie to each other about their backgrounds been more prevalent after their meeting at the bar, the payoff of that would have worked better. Needing to clear Dylan’s name as the CIA agents he knows have now turned against him is also a strong conflict - though left open ended at the end of the script Tis could potentially leave room for a sequel.
DIALOGUE (3)
Carling’s dialogue is written well and establishes her character as an intelligent child - while still allowing her moments where she gets to act like a child. “CARLING You have company! Not the kind from last night!” Their interactions have a good flow (19.9), that morph from him …show more content…
Carling is adult for her age in some ways, but isn’t robotic in nature which subverts the young, intelligent, hacker trope. The corrupt senator as well, might be something expected, but his villainess and that of the men working under him don’t feel cliche or overdone. The ending was also not predictable in that, it would have been expected for Dylan’s name to ave been cleared completely - but it leaves the three leads together heading off on the next adventure as they try to do so. “LISA We still haven’t cleared Dylan. DYLAN They may not be as
