During this experience, I was able to witness the removal of a wound VAC (vacuum assisted closure) and surgical stitches, different methods of wound monitoring and discussed the healing process. For new admissions, the Wound Care Team does a physical examination of the body, looking for any wounds, bruises, scars, tubes and IV placements. They take pictures, measurements and note the location of the wound. Since the hospital still uses paper charting, they handwrite all of their notes and upload them to the patients' medical chart when done with their assessment.…

Halloween was extremely limited in colonial New England because of the rigid Protestant belief systems there. However, in the southern colonies, Halloween was more common since the beliefs and customs of European and Native Americans merged to what the American version of Halloween became. Soon, in the mid-1800s, immigrants from Ireland and Scotland brought their traditions that helped shape Halloween, including such traditions as bobbing for apples, telling ghost stories, and the early version of trick or treat which included people dressing up in costumes and going to house to house asking for food or money. By the late 1800s, the early version of Halloween was more about community and neighborly get-togethers than about ghosts, pranks, and witchcraft.…

Invisible wounds, as Bica states, have been called “soldier's heart” or “battle fatigue,” and “combat exhaustion” but now, the invisible wounds that soldiers suffer from are referred to as PTSD, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. “People who are psychologically, emotionally, or morally wounded as a result of their combat experience” Bica states, suffer from invisible wounds. He goes on to elaborate on what PTSD entails, and describes it as “an anxiety disorder that can develop after an exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal in which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened.” Not only do soldiers and veterans suffer from profound physical injuries, but the cost of war is further increased by the exhaustive psychological tolls war has on its victims. I agree with Bica’s statement on the costs of war: “Soldiers not only suffer effects of trauma, but also moral injuries—that is, debilitating remorse, guilt, shame, loss of self-esteem, self-respect, disorientation, and alienation from the rest of the moral community.”…

One of the advances in fingerprint evidence since Dr. King’s murder has been further study of the ridge comparisons (Saferstein, 2015). A person’s full fingerprint averages 150 ridge characteristics providing plenty of comparison for an identity match (Saferstein, 2015). There have been arguments made that prints collected at a crime scene are not complete, full prints and that could subject the comparison to be invalid because an incomplete fingerprint may only allow for a very limited number of ridge comparison (Saferstein, 2015). In 1973, the International Association of Identification conducted an extensive study, which dispelled any theory that limited ridge comparisons could not identify a person successfully (Saferstein, 2015). In…
