Plenty of historical figures have responded to conflict in many different ways, but the question is which is the best. Some may argue that it is to be defensive, but as shown by Anne Frank and Winston Churchill, that isn't true. The best way people can respond to conflict is by remaining calm, focused, and attempting to have a positive outlook on the situation because it can lead to many agreeable outcomes, it’s proven that it’s the most beneficial way to respond, and unhealthy responses can lead to unfavorable results.

Churchill believed that remaining focused and standing strong was the best response to the conflict of World War Two. Another author writes about Churchill's actions, “By tying the fate of Britain to that of the United States, Churchill gave his people confidence that the united power of two powerful nations would defeat Hitler even more swiftly” (Hart). Churchill concentrated on what was most important, and gave many individuals confidence. An example of someone who remained optimistic and calm during conflict would be Anne Frank, “Father, Mother, and Margot still can't get used to the chiming of the Westertoren clock, which tells us the time every quarter of an hour. Not me, I liked it from the start; it sounds so reassuring, especially at night. You no doubt want to hear what I think of being in hiding. Well, all I can say is that I don't really know yet. I don't think I'll ever feel at home in this house, but that doesn't mean I hate it. It's more like being on vacation in some strange pension. Kind …show more content…
One author writes, “Poorly managed conflict can also stifle creativity because people tend to pull back when they are in conflict. When people communicate less about issues, innovation and the quality of decision-making can suffer for lack of sufficient input” (Runde). When conflicted is poorly handled, it can affect how well someone works or creativity. Winston Churchill's speech also proves this, “You ask, what is our policy? I say it is to wage war by land, sea, and air. War with all our might and with all the strength God has given us, and to wage war against a monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark and lamentable human crime. That us our policy” (Churchill, 368). If Winston Churchill didn't inspire as many citizens as he did, and make them realize what was going on and how terrible it was, Germany could have one the war. Poorly handled personal conflicts can also have a negative effect on those involved, “Conflict triggers strong emotions and can lead to hurt feelings, disappointment, and discomfort. When handled in an unhealthy manner, it can cause irreparable rifts, resentments, and break-ups. But when conflict is resolved in a healthy way, it increases our understanding of one another, builds trust, and strengthens our relationship bonds” (Segal and Smith). If a response to conflict is poor, it can cause mistrust, avoidance, and can hurt one of the parties
