“Macbeth” is known as one of Shakespeare’s darkest plays and with that comes a grim atmosphere and gloomy writing. A key aspect to Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” are the motifs and different ideas that Shakespeare used to keep the play dark. Blood is a major motif as it is used during a soldier’s plight to King Duncan to enhance the reader’s view of Macbeth as a glorious, gallant hero of the story, but blood is also used to represent Macbeth’s guilt of thinking of killing Duncan and his eventual murder by Macbeth.
