In the play macbeth by william shakespeare, the motifs that closely associated with protagonist is the pattern of blood. the developed used blood to symbolize disorder,evil and chaos it serves as an image that provokes Macbeth to reflect upon his deeds, how blood was used to rise to power and tragic downfall.
In the beginning of the play macbeth and the image of blood was used to represent a nobleman Honest and loyal man. Macbeth was considered brave by all the people he was fighting around. Blood was used to represent macbeth's character. As the play goes on,macbeth character started to change,as while as the image of blood. He was convinced to commit all the evils deeds and crime, macbeth thought that he needed to kill king duncan to become king. He murdered king duncan and begun his path to dishonest.Before killing duncan Macbeth hallucinated and images a dagger which he says to the knife "I see thee still, / And, on thy blade and dudgeon, gouts of blood, / Which was not so before" (II.i).the bloody business which informs / Thus to mine eyes" (II.i). Which the bloody business refers to the murder he is about to commit.After the murder macbeth started to feel guilt that he tried to wash duncan's blood of him and his guilt. Will all great Neptune's ocean wash this blood Clean from my hand? No, this my hand will rather The multitudinous seas incarnadine,Making the green one red. all that macbeth didn't stop killed more people, to stay as a king ,each time macbeth murdered another person, he stepped closer to his downfall without realizing it.The image of blood hunts macbeth as the ghost of banquo appears in front of macbeth in shook of the ghost he exclaims, "I am in blood / Stepped in so far that, should I wade no more, / Returning were as tedious as go o'er" (III.v).This quote shows how much macbeth character is changed and how he can't ever return to his honest and loyal solider self, regardless of how guilty he might feel.at the end his decision on following the wrong path has always have a conques and macbeth was killed by Macduff, as while as the image of blood change when macbeth was murdered .William shakespeare used blood imagery to provides us knowledge of the main characters and helps us understand the idea of guilt in the play.
