In Cold Blood is a meticulously constructed collage of witnesses, victims, police, killers, and citizens and their experience with the Clutter Family and their murderers, Dick and Perry. Although the nonfiction novel centers around Dick and Perry, the story is told through interwoven accounts from dozens of people. Capote bounces between these sources like a director cuts to different angles, in the end editing together a continuous product that supports itself like brickwork. Like a director, Capote uses these cuts between people for more than just support. Capote uses his editing to tell the story he wants to tell; he manipulates the reader's opinions, softens and hardens impacts as he sees fit, and disguises everything as if it is a first…
Thesis- Although Capote seems to be telling the story of a brutally murdered family, he focuses upon Dick’s psychotic ways to reflect a dim light on Perry’s disposition, revealing the unexpected possibility for humanity in the face of a murderer. In order to reveal Dick’s cold-blooded ways, Capote strategically juxtaposes the murderers’ actions. He writes that, after the crime, Perry “had merely fallen face down across the bed, as though sleep were a weapon that had struck him from behind.” Contrastingly, Dick “had arrived home at noon, kissed his mother, readily replied to questions his father put concerning his supposed overnight trip to Fort Scott, and sat down to eat, seeming quite his ordinary self” (Capote 73).…

So, why not use real blood in stage/film productions? Well, real blood coagulates (thickens/solidifies to a jelly-like state) in the presence of oxygen, which is not helpful in a performance if someone is supposed to be bleeding out. Blood also darkens during this process. So making fake blood turned out to be a more accessible, effective, and dramatic method of enabling blood effects in a scene.…
