The adrenaline was pumping through my veins and I couldn’t stop despite the fact that my lungs felt as if there were icy shards lodged in my chest. Haunted figures of the men that destroyed my life as I knew it flashed before my eyes as I lept over crates and pushed down trash cans behind me, my path marked by a riddled maze of rotted food and old possessions. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, we're all accustomed to a certain standard, or stereotype that needs to be played. Whether it's being captain of the cheerleading team or the smartest kid in your class, it's one way or another that's there's going to be someone who's supposed to follow by these stereotypes or standards just for the sole fact that that's them. Unfortunately for me, it couldn't get any worse, since being an African American female who unfortunately does not fit your typical, "angry black woman." Disbelieve and fear shook my mind as I lie on my back, sitting on top of concrete sandwiched in between the hot metal hood of a car, as the weight pressed down against me it didn’t hurt, my body was too numb to feel anything. All I could feel was a car pushing me further into the ground pushing my lungs down and shutting air out of it. It felt too surreal I kept blinking as if I thought I’d wake up from this mess. I could see sirens and people gathering around me watching in disbelieve, I kept fading in and out of conscience I felt like I was close to death.…

By the outbreak of the Civil War, the image of the “bloodhound” had become an explicit representation of the domination of slaveowners over the enslaved and implicit emblem of the power of the “slavocracy” over the country as a whole. The use of the term “bloodhound” as it was used by anti-slavery forces in the United States traces its roots not to a particular breed of dog, but to their occupation and perceived origin. Beginning in 1796, the term came into vogue as the critic’s term for the dogs imported to British Jamaica from Cuba for the purpose of putting down a rebellion of runaway slaves and their descendants by means of the animals’ prowess as a means of both pursuit and intimidation. The use of these animals was condemned by parliament…
