In today’s information based economy, a variety skills are required in order to distinguish oneself amid the ever growing stable of educated candidates in the contemporary job market. However, of the plethora of skills one might bring to bear in order to become more competitive, the ability to research any given subject and the creative flexibility to apply the information to complete a given task is paramount to making oneself both unique and indispensable in the modern workplace.
The proliferation of communication technologies such as the internet and social media has quickened the pace of ever changing consumer expectations. Thus any company or organization wishing to navigate the shifting tide of consumer favor must have a creative and knowledge hungry workforce ready to brave the winds of a data monsoon that will break those too inflexible to bend in the breeze.
Research is the centerpiece of awareness. Awareness is the vessel by which a company may anticipate and fulfill consumer needs in a world where disruptive technologies are changing

Eventually, after years of selling off assets in order to combat continual quarterly losses, Blockbuster would declare chapter 11 on September 23, 2010.
Blockbuster, despite having the initial advantage of financial superiority and consumer confidence eventually suffered due to a loss of foresight. Foresight that may have been acquired via research and creativity of it’s employees. The fable of Blockbuster’s demise should serve as both a lesson and warning for we entrepreneur and employees in the 21st century.
Essentially, it may be said that the ability to research and apply the given information in order to stay ahead of the sharp curve of consumer expectation is the life blood of economic success in the modern
