Blink Health is a generic drug start-up created by Geoffrey Chaiken and his brother Matthew. Their business focuses on delivering prescription drug discounts to consumers through the Blink Health app and website. Discounts are offered on over 15,000 medications, and their network is comprised of over 57,000 pharmacies nationwide, including CVS, Rite-Aid, Walmart, Acme, and Target. Walgreens pharmacies are no longer included in Blink’s network, after Blink decided not to extend their existing arrangement. Blink Health targets reducing high copays from insurance companies, or making the retail price cheaper for consumers without health insurance. Since then, Blink’s growth has accumulated to over $165 million in funding, which has allowed them to contract with more pharmacies and pharmacy benefit managers, like Express Scripts. In December 2016, Blink Health partnered with ESI and insulin manufacturer Eli Lilly to provide uninsured patients with discounts up to 40% off retail price for Lilly’s insulin. The goal of this partnership was to improve affordability and access to diabetes treatment. However, in June 2017, Blink Health terminated their contract with ESI over ESI’s “failing to live up to the contractual agreements they had struck with us.” More statements from Blink Health said ESI wanted an exclusive relationship with the start-up, which violated the terms of their agreement. ESI will continue distributing discounts to Blink through 2017. Even though Blink will no longer partner with Eli Lilly after 2017, this does not mean they are giving up their battle against diabetes. Blink Health has committed to spending $10 million worth of medication to patients with type-2 diabetes with their new program, #TreatType2. People living with diabetes who create an account on Blink Health's website or free mobile app, starting today, will receive a free, one-year supply of the three most commonly prescribed generic medications for type-2 diabetes: metformin, glipizide and

Pharmaceuticals such as antihyperglycemic medications may also be an option to keep blood sugar levels on track. Oral antidiabetic agent metformin and glyburide have shown efficacy with no evidence of harm to the foetus, although long-term safety remains a concern (28.) When comparing to two, metformin was a 2.1 times higher failure rate than glyburide. Metformin works by decreasing the amount of glucose the liver makes, keeping blood sugar levels low and boosting insulin response. Although metformin does cross the placenta and enter the baby’s bloodstream, the amount is small. Studies have not found evidence to suggest that metformin harms the fetus.…
