Everyone is a conformist one way or another, even if they feel alone or different from the rest. Many despise the word conformity, but it really isn’t that bad. In his play, Antigone, Sophocles will show this idea of conformity through each of his characters. Most of them can be explained by a single quote in the article "You are a Conformist (That is, you are Human)". Here, author Noam Spancer makes his final remark, "When you go against a group, you did it not on your own, but in the name -and with the backing - of another group". Many will deny this statement because a person who acts against a group with the same beliefs will make them different. In reality there are others who go against these groups and don’t even realize they are conforming. When people hear conforming they think everyone is trying to do everything the same, when in reality, it just shows how different we are. This ties with a statement made in the article “The Sociology of Leopard Man” when the author says “To be human is to be an individual human, with individual tastes, talents, values, and aspirations” (Logan Feys). Each character is different, even though they all try to conform to the same thing. They make a different attempt to reach it, which helps show the difference between right and wrong.
