There are several variations to this ritual. The other common use of “Blessed Be”by wiccans and pagans is in ceremonies and rituals. The other most common way “Blessed be” is used in wicca and paganism today is in an incorrect way. People use it to mean “hi”, “bye” or as a general blessing simular to “have a blessed day” or “blessings to you”. It is something special and sacred that every pagan and wiccan should know and understand. Also because it is so often used by wiccans and pagans. The phrase “blessed be” is thrown around a lot and it’s easy to overuse or incorrectly use this phrase. Many pagans and wiccans misunderstand the actual meaning of the phrase “blessed be” precisely because it is overused or used incorrectly so often. Many people first hear the phrase “blessed be” used incorrectly, such as in place of “hi” , “bye” or “be blessed” and so assume it’s meaning to be that. This is unfortunate because they will be losing out on an incredible opportunity to use it in it’s proper way, as invoking a deity’s blessing into themselves or another person. By using it in irreverent ways, it looses it’s meaning, and therefore power, to them. I believe all things are sacred. However I also believe that there is a time and place for everything. Some things are to be used in only formal, sacred ways or times. For me I feel the phrase “blessed be” is one of those things.
