“This is the truth mom! I saw Ultima on the crosswalk when we are in the bus heading to the home from the graduation. I was really shocked at that time too. But, that is the truth,” Antonio said.
“Ok! Let’s go to the bus stop tomorrow, Antonio’s mother said with smile on her face. They woke up and headed to the bus stop directly. Antonio took her mom to the stop, where they met last time and the bus started to come and Ultima was in the bus stop and Antonio saw her and pointed towards her. Antonio’s mom couldn’t see it. So, Antonio’s mom went back home. But, Antonio went back directly to Tantra; he described what happened when his mom saw Ultima. Tantra said, “Oh My smart son! The competing belief systems that occur around Antonio are the drives behind his confusion and misunderstanding. On one hand he has his mother and her deep rooted beliefs towards God and the Virgin Mary. Then on the other, there is Ultima and his dad who do not seem to fall into this religious box. These competing views towards life seem to have a toll on Antonio and his everyday interactions. Throughout most of the book, Antonio explains his uncertainty when it comes to religion and following in his mother's steps.…

Dumas' tone in "The F Word" is best summed up in two words: amusing and playful. I would use these two words to characterize Dumas' tone due to the fact that she constantly utilizes humor and sarcasm in her essay. If she had not used any humor or sarcasm, I would then describe her essay as having a bitter tone towards America. However, the use of humor completely transfigures the tone of the essay. Even though Dumas' tone is playful and entertaining, the joking nature does not distract readers from the content of the essay.…
