The artist Xavier Prou, or you may know him as Blek Le Rat, was one of the first people ever to do graffiti art in Paris. He is also known as "Father of stencil graffiti". His name came from a comic book called Blek le Roc. By switching the letters around in “art” he came up with the word “Rat.” After getting arrested in 1991, is when Le Rat was really discovered. He got to work with pre- stenciled posters, and even citing the speedier applications for the medium of the walls. He also learned that his punishment should be caught on the act.
