Blast Lessons

Improved Essays
Blast is a winter retreat for both middle school and highschool students in Wisconsin Dells. Blast only lasts for a weekend but it is an amazing opportunity to learn more about God and about your friends. We start off Blast by singing songs, making jokes, and talking in hilariously bad British accents on a two and a half hour drive to Wisconsin. Once we arrive at the Kalahari Resort we have time to get settled into our rooms and go to the first Blast lesson. The Blast lessons are presented at different times so that in between lessons we have time to either go to the huge indoor pool or the indoor theme park. While the theme park is loads of fun the Bible lessons are just as fun and captivating. Before each lesson we have a worship time where

    Sidra Zimmerman Ministry Project

The People and the Situation As was first mentioned in my ministry group project proposal, the group I chose was my own small group. When the project first started, it consisted of roughly 10 men and women, most members of my Southern Baptist church who meet weekly to suss through the week’s sermon together. Interestingly enough, most of us had been raised in some semblance of a Christian home, though our experience within that “Christian” community varied.…

Camp Bird for Lutherans is, and has been my second home since I was twelve years old. In fifth grade, one of my mom’s friends, Mrs. Jenny Krauklis, invited me to attend Camp Bird. That summer my family drove me four hours north, and left me at camp - my only friend being Mrs. Krauklis. I spent the week making new friends, painting arts and crafts, eating way too much of the acclaimed camp food, and strengthening my faith in Christ. My parents picked me up at the end of the week, and I spent the next year raving about camp.…

If a group from my congregation asked me to teach a four week course, I would choose Genesis on the grounds that it holds more stories that have relevance to the context of my congregation. The approximate demographics of my congregation are as follows: over ninety percent are Caucasian; over fifty percent are 45 years of age or older; women are the dominate group within most of the small group activities; and the mining, healthcare, and retail industries are the largest employers respectively. Lay-offs affect most families in this congregation due to regular fluctuations in the mining industry, some due to direct employment and others by delicate economic ties to the mining industry. Just like most of the country, the families of my congregation…

Junior year theology focuses on serving people in our community, and I got to do just that at Baptist Hospital and Fair Park Early Childhood Center. From doing odd jobs for nurses and teachers to playing with children I learned a little of what it means to serve. Even though it might not have always been the most exciting work it made a difference for the people. The ideas in the songs “Do Something” by Matthew West and “Live Like That” by Sidewalk Prophets express the value of giving your time to others. First semester I was assigned to Baptist Hospital and started doing various tasks as a volunteer.…

    Support Group Observation

In attempt to develop range in my observation of support groups, I once again found myself returning to an old stomping ground. Throughout my years in high school, I dedicated several hours a week to my local church in a growth group for high school girls. Although I currently experience mixed emotions with religion, I recalled how influential it was during my teenaged years to have such support, convincing me to return to observe a group to identify ways in why it was so helpful for me during difficult moments in my life. Luckily, my previous growth group leader was still leading groups and graciously accepted my request to be a guest that following week. Meeting once a week, the purpose of these groups was to discuss the Bible and life issues, but based on personal experience, these groups offered much more than a few life lectures.…

“The Bible will keep you from sin, or sin will keep you from the Bible.” This quote was from a man named Dwight L. Moody, a publisher and the man who started the Moody Church. There is a place in Lawton, Michigan who helps us to go away from sin, walk away from temptations, run away from the devil, and sprint to the bible. For the past two years, I am so extremely ecstatic to say I go to Miracle Camp, a year-round retreat camp focussed on helping kids, families, and couples, to grow their unending passion for Christ. While they love having fun, they honor Christ in everything they do!…
