Blare Gooch Research Paper

Kids across the nation are standing out and making a difference. Whether its just picking up around the community or starting a foundation people can make a difference. Many people think kids are just in the way and don’t ever actually make a difference in their community. Blare Gooch started with a teddy bear, Alex Scott started with a cup of lemonade, and Zach Hunter started with a few pennies around his house. The smallest things can turn into a life changing difference. Blare Gooch was twelve years old when he came up with the idea to gather teddy bears and send them to the kids in Haiti. Blare is part Haitian and when he saw the devastation in Haiti he was horrified. He even said how he wanted to somehow give all of them a hug. Instead of a hug, he knew that stuffed animals made him feel safe so he figured a stuffed animal would cheer up the kids. Blare started by donating his two favorite stuffed animals then proceeded to share what he was doing on Facebook. Zach vowed to do something to stop it but his father told him there was nothing he could do. In seventh grade he came up with the idea “Loose Change to Loosen Chains”. Just by gathering some loose change around the house he raised $8,500 with just his classmates. Zach also wrote a book Generation Change, and wants to abolish slavery for good in his lifetime. Zach is now in the process of writing two more books. Hundreds of students have also launched “Loose Change to Loosen Chains” campaigns on their own. Zach does not know what he wants to do when he gets older but he wants to go into something to do with art, music, or writing. A few pennies here and there can add up and turn into something huge; in Zach’s case his pennies are ending slavery
