Heavy exposure to mold can cause a lot of health problems. Mold can affect the human health by causing allergies, infections, and toxicity. Symptoms that you may be exposed to caused by mold are as followed: wheezing, sinus congestion, burning eyes, and respiratory failure. Imagine being a first-year college freshman trying to adjust to the major change that occurs when entering college, and having to potentially deal with these issues due to the mold in your dorm. Instead of taking care of this issue, the Director of Housing at Texas State commanded those in lower level positions of power to tell residents to keep their air conditioners at freezing temperatures to contain the mold--as winter approached. Students pay thousands of dollars from their own money to live comfortably on campus. It’s not comfortable be sitting under 60-degree temperature during the winter. This protocol also hinders the ability of a resident to shower. Since Blanco Hall residents are required to keep their air conditioning units at freezing temperatures for maximum mold constraint, the action of getting under a stream of water only to have to get back out into the freezing cold temperatures in their rooms becomes difficult. The Director of Housing should not be punishing the students who live at Blanco Hall for the university’s failure to improve one of its dormitory
