Blanking High School Life

Improved Essays
Clear skies: one cloud left, two right. Slight breeze from the south, a typical fall day. The SHISH of the club in the swing, and the ball sounding TING off the club over and over. Music is coming from the phone on my golf cart with the no disturb mode turned on. Playing every day alone or with the team, always focused on the game, ignoring the reality of busy high school life. This is one of the ways to blank life. Blanking life is what I’m calling this time in high school and life, of just by not thinking about something important. As a high school student life can be tough, lots of things are going on and you are having more responsibilities than you ever have experienced in your life. My way to deal with it so far, is by ignoring it.

My life began to spiral downward before fifth grade began. I found myself an endless loop over summer vacation of waking up, experiencing the day as a blur, sleep, then repeat. This drove me to discover a new way to spend my day. On the television I noticed a recurring advertisement for a game called ‘World of Warcraft’. Going into my senior year I was aware that there was going to be a new girls soccer coach in which I was very upset about. I already worked my butt off to make the team and show my potential and it paid off, but then my coach decided to leave for personal reasons. This was very controversial because a lot of us felt upset with our coach, but we also realized we need him more than we thought we did, especially all sixteen of us girls going into our senior year of high school. So always in the back of my mind was the thought of if I should play soccer my last year of high school, or just not play a sport and even considered trying out lacrosse but that seemed way too of a crazy idea. It got the point where I cried to my mother one time asking…

Sitting in the Chicago airport late one summer evening, waiting for my flight to board, I stared at the wall, wondering how on earth we all got to where we were. I certainly never thought I would be going into my last year of high school with my dad living halfway across the country in some distant, large city with his new girlfriend. School induced enough anxiety on its own. Then again, nobody plans for or expects these things to happen; nobody gets married and has a kid, thinking, I’ll give this about twenty years or so, and then I’ll ask for a divorce at Christmas and move across the country from my kids. It happens anyway, though.…
