Blankets For Hope: A Personal Analysis

As individuals we consist of only small components of a bigger picture; however, we all have the capability of making an immense impact. After volunteering at the Rose Parade two years ago, I was inspired to create Blankets for Hope, an organization that provides blankets to individuals without homes. Scattered across the venue’s sidewalks and under makeshift tents, were an untold amount of bodies curled up together. Shocked, I saw people walk past them as if they were a piece of the daily scenery. Blankets for Hope began when I refused to accept this sight as the norm of everyday life. While the club is small in size, the impact it has, not only on the community and on myself, is large.
Blankets for Hope gave me the opportunity to express and put into action my desire for building a stronger community. Through giving out handmade blankets at homeless shelters, I can connect the public together to find strength and hope in one another. This club especially …show more content…
I wanted to assist those who, for whatever reasons, could not help themselves and many times, were left unnoticed. Blankets are always comforting to me, especially when I felt ill, stressed, or tired. Nothing felt more reassuring than being wrapped up in my blanket at the end of the day. In a way, donating blankets allows me to share that warmth with others.
Today, there remains an estimate of one-hundred million homeless people worldwide. Blankets for Hope is just a small helping hand in the grand scheme of things. However, it unlocked the skills within me to become a leader in my community. Throughout my university career and beyond, I intend to carry out my desire of strengthening those around me, both within and outside of the classroom. My experience with aiding the community showed that doubts or fears of being unsuccessful do not bind me. Rather, my ambitions, my confidence, and my values unfailingly drive me to influence
