During the rape scene Stanley says that he and Blanche have “had this date with each other from the beginning,” and we understand why he says it due to how both of them interact with the opposite sex. It is the most tragic aspect of the story and it is hard to imagine a different ending. I suppose I do feel sympathy for Blanche. It’s as though she lies to conceal the real her because she does not want people knowing the truth of all her tragedies that she has had to endure. She would rather people believe the façade she imagines then know the horrible things she has done due to the unforgiving nature of events that fell upon her in her life. Blanche is stuck in the wrong time fantasizing about southern gentleman and unable to come to terms with the modern world she is living in.
