Most people that are living in poverty lose hope for their future, and just give up. Can you blame them if the shoe was on the other foot? If everywhere you turned people ignored you, and looked down on you, because of your situation, what hope is there? But Proverbs 28:27 (New Kings James Version), explains that God wants us to identify with the needy, not ignore them. If we help others when they are in trouble God will bless us, and supply all our needs.
Based on the spiritual view, and social work values a Christian social worker should respond first to the most important need of the individual, or family living in poverty. That need could be housing, food, or income. Once the most important need is met, then the social worker is able to focus on providing other resources to meet the other needs. Once that individual, or family is blessed by the social worker, and can see a brighter future, then they should approach the importance of having a relationship with Jesus Christ, to restore their faith in what they have been going
