Who 's to Blame?
Who 's to blame for this obesity epidemic, food manufacturers or the consumers themselves? In discussions of obesity in America, one controversial issue has been the question of who 's to blame for the high percentage of obese children and adults in America. On one hand, Zinczenko argues that food manufacturers are to blame for the high percentage of obesity in America. On the other hand, Balko contends that a person’s health should be their own responsibility, not the government 's nor the food manufacturers. After searching online for a few hours, I found quite a few articles that both agreed and disagreed with both Balko and Zinczenko 's arguments. My feelings on the issue are …show more content…
At the time, I had little knowledge about diabetes or what obesity was for that matter. He was a bit big for his size, but I never in my life imagined that he would have to worry about diabetes at such a young age. The only difference between him and other people is, he had the willpower to stop eating so unhealthily. He had my dad buy healthier foods to cook, and he was motivated to join a sport. It wasn’t easy for him, but he made the choice to do so and stuck with it. I can’t say that obesity is easy to prevent because a healthy lifestyle is not one that is easy to live, nor is it cheap, but if a person really wants to they will find a way. He had the willpower to do better, which is something that many other people lack. He took accountability at such a young age and blamed nobody but himself for his obesity …show more content…
According to author, Yuval Noah Harari, “Obesity is a double victory for consumerism. Instead of eating little, which leads to economic contraction, people eat too much and then buy diet products – contributing to economic growth twice over.” Personal responsibility should be primary in our nutrition choices. Before reading through tons of articles and discovering people 's different views on obesity, my response on the obesity epidemic would probably have had to solely agree with Zinczenko 's argument, but all the information i came across led me to almost agree with both Balko & Zinczenko arguments. I agree that the government shouldn 't be trying to control what we eat, however, i do think they should instead be giving us healthier alternatives. While there are many external reasons for obesity, we most certainly can 't place blame on others, without first looking at
