(An Analysis of Blakes use of Archetypes in the Lamb and The Tyger)
“What immortal hand or eye, dare frame thy fearful symmetry?”(Line 23-24). The poems that will be discussed are “The Lamb” and “The Tyger” both wrote by William Blake. The poem “The Lamb” is about how unmindful and innocent the lamb is. In “The Tyger” he writes about the evil about the tiger and how the tiger knows a greater extent about the world. Each of these poems show an archetype. An archetype is, plot patterns, character types, or ideas with emotional power and widespread appeal. In Blake’s poems ‘The Lamb’ and the “The Tyger” he represents different archetypes.
In the poem “The Lamb”, an archetype would be innocent and joyful. I believe freshman are lambs. Where they are convinced everything is so outstanding and honestly, they don't think about the imperfections. When in reality the world or as in this case the high school is iniquitous. I believe that each person can be a “Tyger” and a “Lamb”. I’m a senior in high school and know everything down to the dot now. Where as a freshman would be “Lambs” they are young and reckless and believe that everything is exciting and amusing. Where as being a senior, I know it's not all fun and games and not everything and anybody is as innocence as you assume they are. “ In conclusion, archetypes are used in both of Blake’s poems “The Lamb” and “The Tyger”. The lamb represented innocence and joyful whereas the tiger is better experience and fearful. I will believe I am a Tyger until I take my next step in my life. Lambs are the prey because they don’t actually know what's going on and are unobservant. Where tigers are the predator because they are aware of what is going on and know what to expect others. Now are you a Tiger or a
