On August 9th, 2014, Michael Brown and his friend Dorian Johnson were walking in the middle of the street when they were approached by a police officer by the name of Darren Wilson. With there being altered stories explaining what happened next rather than choosing one side of the story we can agree that an altercation occurred and it led to the unfortunate death of eighteen year old Michael Brown. Because of the differing stories and videos online, I will not focus on whether I feel like the killing of Michael Brown was justified, but whether the process to indict/or not to indict Officer Darren Wilson was justified and not flawed. Beginning as soon as you read the table of contents of the DOJ report on the Ferguson Police Department…

Upon arrival I made contact with a 14 year old female, later identified as Haley Williams sitting outside of the residence driveway in a grassy area. Haley explained that her father has been drinking all day and became agitated with her prior to this incident. Haley stated she and her father became involved in a verbal argument which ensued for some time, before she told her…

Philosophical analysts and scientists all over the nation continue to raise arguments when looking at the story of Chris McCandless and his journey. While some recognize him as a romantic hero following a life immersed in the nature of the world, some choose to see him as a fool for thinking he could live this lifestyle. When looking at both arguments, it comes down to the issue of morals, and the lifestyle the person analyzing has grown up in. Morals and values heavily influence the opinions of what Chris McCandless did with his life, even though it was his right to do as he pleased. To begin, by looking at both sides of the argument I believe my social environment helps shape my opinion of this story.…

Corey Turner remembers collecting participation trophies from the YMCA soccer program he was involved in as a young athlete. These trophies are now sitting in a dusty box somewhere in his parent's basement. This leads him to question whether or not young athletes should receive trophies for just showing up. Corey Turner is not alone, people across the nation have debated this issue for as long as youth sports have been in existence. I believe that kids should not get trophies for participating because kids should learn life lessons from both wins and losses and participation trophies do more harm than good.…

The Emancipation Proclamation legally freed the slaves in states that were not under Union control as a reaction to the Dred Scott case. Lincoln’s motive behind the issuance of the Proclamation remains one of the most debated topic of the president. In the famous Lincoln-Douglass Debate in Charleston (National Historic SiteIllinois), Lincoln claimed that he “as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race” when asked to talk about his opinion about the equality between the black people and the white people. This led to the theory that Lincoln was a white-suprematist in nature, but still signed the Proclamation in order to win the war.…

This excessively specific physique has become a sort of “job requirement” for ballerinas. Most are not born with the qualities that are required, meaning that they starve themselves almost to the point of death. These requirements do not make sense because in order for a ballerina to survive 8-hour rehearsal days, she must eat. If she doesn’t, she won’t be able to perform her best, and will in turn not look her best on stage. Weight and body image is something that Copeland, as well as many other ballerinas in the past have struggled with.…
