Fist I want you to know how honored I am to be one of the student being considered to be part of a great organization like National Honor Society. I have been looking forward to this since junior honor society in eighth grade. I believe this is a good organization to be part of and I hope I bring improvement by being a member. I would like to think I am deserving of this nomination because I have worked very hard to be where I am today.…
Needless to say my grades improved from this. I also began to be more interactive in my school by joining several clubs like Garland High School Marching M.O.B (Mighty Owl Band) and became more active in my community by volunteering to help local schools and soup kitchens such as Life Message. I 'm only young and in high school once so I decided to dedicate some time to making memories helping my school and local community. While it has been extremely difficult and has required extreme time management, I wouldn 't want to live my life any other way right…
The First to Succeed Not many people enter college knowing exactly what they want to do for a career or exactly what they want to major in, and if they do, they generally end up changing it. However, because of Blackfoot High School I consider myself one of the few. I know exactly what I want to major in and it is because of the classes and activities that I have been a part of that I am so prepared. BHS is responsible for who I am, who I’m going to become, and most importantly, BHS yearbook is responsible for the career that I have chosen to pursue.…
My grades this past year were and are not indicative of who I am as a student, or as a person in general. My junior year of high school, I decided to do PSEO, thinking it was an easy way to get credits for both high school and college. I did not realize the struggle I was going to have just trying to be accountable for myself during my senior year. My daily schedule consisted of work, soccer, managing the high school boy’s hockey team, volunteer work, spending time with my high school friends and taking college courses. I took the most challenging classes through Anoka-Ramsey Community College, thinking that like high school these would be the best for me.…
Since starting at Montgomery College four years ago I have changed tremendously. Metamorphosing from a timid girl who only spoke when spoken to and who dared not make eye contact, to someone who has the confidence to initiate a conversation and will go to professors when she needs help (even if sometimes I still go too late..). In the last two semesters alone I have changed so much, that choosing behaviors to write about is difficult and has required a great deal of self reflection. The first health behavior I have chosen is my work ethic surrounding school. My time at Montgomery college has been spent deciphering what career I want my future to hold.…
As i continued reading I really stop and thought about it for a second. I can safely say that i change my ways with school and the way my learning habits have been from the…
Atul Gawande’s Better: A Surgeon’s Notes on Performance tells the reader about Gawande’s experience while a doctor. Atul Gawande is a general surgeon at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Both, a staff writer for The New Yorker, and an associate professor at Harvard Medical school and the Harvard School of Public Health. Gawande is most clearly an accomplished person, but being this accomplished is enough for him. He wants to be better, he desires to make improvements to his life to benefit those around him. Better: A Surgeon’s Notes on Performance is about not being satisfied with good enough, but trying for better.…
I repetitively used the excuse that I was competing against the smartest students in the city, and that not doing well was to be expected. These low expectations caused my grades to plummet, and with my grades, my self-confidence fell too. By the time I was a sophomore, I was on the verge of failing all of my classes. I fell into a state where I believed that I couldn’t do anything with my life and there was nothing that I could do to change it. This toxic mindset bled into the other aspects of my life, inside and outside of school.…
The first few days of school are always the toughest, the lack of insight a student may have on the teaching methods and format of the class can be overwhelming. Fortunately, there are facilitators, such as yourself I might add, that make the transition quick and easy. With that, I am eager to start this course and am ready to learn and better grasp the topic of US history. Like many of your APUSH students, I suspect, I am a Junior currently attending Las Lomas High School. As a student for about 11 years, I can honestly say my learning process is ever-changing and improving as time passes.…
William J. Clinton once famously stated, “If you live long enough, you’ll make mistakes. But if you learn from them, you’ll be a better person. It’s how you handle adversity not how it affects you.” I find this quote to be very true based on my upbringings and experiences throughout junior year of college. As I sit here writing this essay…
With every new class I have ever taken, came new experiences, new knowledge, and self improvement. Which have all made me into a better student and molded me as a person. Not all classes do this to every student it consist of the student’s willingness to learn, and the teacher’s interest in their students learning. In English 1302, I have improved my analyzing skills, my communication skills, and I am working on correct grammar. One of my favorite assignments from this semester that really helped me refresh and improve my analyzing skills was the song/poem essay.…
I always thought school was dumb. That was until I found out that I wanted to do something with my life. I learn that school is important in everyone's future. My first year of high school as a freshman, I didn’t care about my academic future, I was living like a kid still.…
The change between the beginning of high school and the end of high school occurs for everybody, but it truly amazes me how the person I am today contrasts so much from the person I was at the beginning of high school or even the beginning of the semester. Despite the stereotypicality of changing in highschool, I believe I possess something that most students do not, self-realization. This self-realization serves as the fuel for my desire for self-improvement. This self-realization is different than most because I believe I can see my negative qualities and my positive qualities. I, in turn, can then utilize my positive qualities to improve my negative qualities.…
There in high school you have many memories, you start your year off as a freshman, you begin to have numerous memories throughout the year, you have your ups and downs and your start thinking to yourself that your can 't do it, you don’t understand anything that everyone else understands. My freshman year in high school didn 't go so well then I thought it was going to. My grades slowly when down the drain, I didn 't care what my grades were until I realized if I didn 't get my act together I would be spending my whole summer vacation in summer school because I didn 't care what my grades were. In high school, my grades weren’t as the best than other individuals. Throughout my high school years, I had progressed.…
Throughout life, we learn different lessons be it from a teacher such as your parents, guardians, spouse, etc. or just going out and living and collecting experiences. From these, we grow and become the person we are today. We learn to shape us into the person we are and motivate the things we do and believe. I believe heavily in three core things I’ve learned in my life through experience. These core principles are Trust is something earned, sometimes you must think outside the box, and don’t let the bad moments outshine the good.…
