Blackfish: The Killer Whales At Seaworld

Blackfish released on July 19, 2013 by the producer Gabriela Cowperthwaite. The film shows orcas being trapped in SeaWorld for human entertainment. They are trapped in small swimming pools where they have no place to hide or no place where they can be away from the rest of the orcas. The argument it makes is that orcas should be free and not in pools. The trainers at SeaWorld believe that SeaWorld should close and let all the killer whales live their rest of their life in the ocean where they belong. They don't want to let go of Tilikum the whale because of breeding reasons. Moreover, the orcas should be free because they become aggressive towards the trainers and has killed many while trying to entertain the audience, they're not to be kept …show more content…
They show news reporters explaining to their viewers very angrily how SeaWorld shouldn't keep the orcas trapped in pools for too long because they become stressed and angry with the trainers. One particular news reporter from ABC news said "These are wild animals and are very unpredictable, we don't speak their language." Killer whales can't talk back to humans and tell them what's wrong, they should be released back in the ocean where they belong and they won't hurt any more trainers. One story the filmmakers makes the trainers repeat is the death of Dawn Brancheau, trainer at SeaWorld. She was pulled in the pool by Tilikum and killed her. The owner at SeaWorld denies that the orca was responsible for her death, he says it was her mistake. According to Jeff, trainer at SeaWorld said, "The owner blames her and she's not even alive to defend her self." Other viewers say that she was pulled in by the orca and swallowed her arm. The only reason the owner said it was her mistake was to keep SeaWorld opened. This documentary also used ethos.
The filmmaker made the SeaWorld trainers explain how the orcas are suffering and why they should be free. They know more about the orcas then any other people because the trainers work with them. One trainer explained that SeaWorld lie to their customers by telling them that orcas live up to 25 to 30 years because they get proper care and
