A Persuasive Essay For Why SeaWorld Should Not Have Orcas Do you enjoy SeaWorld? Should you enjoy SeaWorld? Blackfish is a documentary directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite which released in 2013. Blackfish brings many important facts about the park to the table. The facts come from trustworthy people such as scientists and former SeaWorld employees who worked with the whales very closely and had experiences with them. The company does not have the right to capture and confine intelligent creatures for years on end. It also does not have the right to ignore safety risks that put their staff in danger. Over the years the park has had many failures that show the inability of the owners of the park to take action. SeaWorld captured its original orcas in the 1960’s in Washington state. Capturing the whales was not illegal but some of the ways they captured them was, and how they hid the bodies of the dead whales was illegal. When capturing the orcas they were kicked out of Washington state and had to capture them elsewhere. Many whales were injured or killed while trying to capture them, they would then hide the bodies. They ignored concerning behaviour from the animal's , safety risks with the enclosures at their parks, and incidents between animals and staff. SeaWorld ignored these issues for years if they did not ignore them people would have been not injured or killed by the orcas. Their disregard for the safety of not only its trainers but it's orcas as well shows that they were not capable of keeping orcas in their parks. It is a major responsibility for a park to keep orcas, you need to be able to keep trainers and orcas safe, SeaWorld failed to do so.
