Within the first thirty seconds of the movie (0:10), a call is made to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, when the dispatcher answers the call a man tells the dispatcher; “We need a S.O. to respond to a dead person at SeaWorld. Uh, a whale has eaten one of the trainers.” The dispatcher, in shock, answers, “A whale ate one of the trainers?” The man very calmly and subtly replies, “That’s correct.” Placing this audio recording in the beginning in the movie is a very smart move and a great way to leave the audience stunned and froze. The death of Dawn was the third death I n30 years as well as the third death done by Tilikum. 45:00 a former trainer and friend of Dawn’s was interviewed, she left one month before Dawn was mutilated and kept asking herself if there was anything she could’ve done to save her friend, appealing to the audience’s sense of loss and grief. At 1:06:00 it shows a camera recording of how Dawn was grabbed by her left forearm and dragged into the water, the company couldn’t take the blame for another death due to the same killer whale so they had to blame it on Dawn but a trainer told the company OSHA how Tilikum pulled her in on purpose and SeaWorld said it was Dawn’s fault for having a long ponytail and it should’ve been in a bun.
