Blackberries In June Ron Rash Summary

Ron Rash's "Blackberries in June" Is a story filled with characters who must overcome hardship. The story is about Jamie and Matt's family and what Jamie's brother, Charlton, and Matt do for a living. The story focuses on Matt and Charlton's job and how they are constantly in danger while they are logging. The story also shines light on the evolution of Jamie’s character as different hardships intensify. Jamie is a character that is constantly being served up issues that she must take care of, she is constantly worrying about her husband’s and brother’s health, and she is supposed to fix the problems that arise. Linda is always buying new clothes and then when she runs out of money she points her finger straight at Matt and then begins to yell at him about how her husband constantly is over paying him. What Linda doesn’t realize is that all she needs to do is limit her spending and not constantly buy the things she wants rather then what she needs. When Charlton brutally injured his leg and when he was left without of a job Linda became very emotional and became a wreck when she realized the hospital bills will soon bury her. Immediately she tells Matt to give her money because it is his fault that her and her husband have no money. In actuality it was her own fault that she had very little money to her name. When Matt refused to give her that money and he walked away she began exclaiming to Jamie that she has to pay her because Charlton gave Matt an hourly pay. What Linda failed to see was that had she mended her ways then her and her husband would not have been in that predicament any
