Black University Research Paper

The blacker the college, sweeter the knowledge. As kids, we see shows and movies such as A Different World and School Daze then imagine attending an HBCU being fun and adventurous. Not realizing and understanding the essence of having a place in the world where you can relate with people of different shades of melanin and personalities. The mission of an Historically Black College or University is to give blacks the opportunity of higher learning and allow them to graduate with multiple job lineups. From my perspective, an HBCU should make you feel more welcome than a PWI would, make you feel wanted and appreciated. Historically Black Colleges and Universities capture and expose the pride, ambition, and culture of black people. Attending one can provide growth and self-awareness throughout oneself. You become a lion, fierce with your eyes pierced open. I never knew how much attending an HBCU would change the way I think and perceive the world. I was looking for a place with ethnicity and diversity. It is truly about gaining a family-oriented space. Of course, college is for learning and receiving a degree but if you do not have people to share that experience with than it is merely dull and uneventful. If there is a lack of individuals that you can connect with, the experience will be a waste. College should contain some of the best, wildest experiences of your life due to real-world responsibilities such as, paying bills, working a full-time job, and providing for a family that comes after graduation. I wanted to be free from nagging and live life to the fullest whilst in undergrad so that’s what I looked for in a college in addition to academics.
