They start to spend a lot of time with each other and start planning their future. When they are together, they do not notice how fast the time goes by and they both are incredibly happy. The main characters in The Great Gatsby and “Back to Black” become blind when they fall in love with another person. In the book, Jay Gatsby comes back from war and becomes obsessed with Daisy. He wants to recreate the past and does not notice that the things have changed during the past 5 years. Even the fact that Daisy has a husband does not stop Jay, and when he comes back, he buys the house across Daisy, who lives in the East Egg, just to see the light which comes from her house every day. "’Can't repeat the past?’ he cried incredulously. ‘Why of course you can!’" (Fitzgerald 110). Jay Gatsby is obsessed with Daisy. He cannot release the past and stop thinking about Daisy Buchanan because she is his only purpose in life. He created his own imaginary world and does not want to think that the reality is different.
