One of the biggest problems facing the black community is recognition. Other students on grounds have this perception of the black students to be lesser than or that black students come from a completely different world. Although there are many differences, there are also many similarities and that should not exist as a barrier. As a result of their lack of understanding, they isolate the black student and often act as if we don’t exist. Not recognizing another person or group of people’s presences is a type of racism within itself. I believe in order to mend this separation, we as the black community must raise awareness of the problem. By raising awareness, other students will realize the importance of acknowledge other people’s presence.
